A SURPRISE VISITOR

Minniford, Madeline, Muriel, and Lizzie walked back to Minniford’s house, huddling together in the dusk. At night, Wilderbrush seemed dark and scary. Minniford invited her friends in. Suddenly she stopped short! A large black shape loomed at her door. Mustering her courage, Minniford squeaked, “Who is that in front of my house?”

“Only me!” Eagle boomed.

“Why, good evening, Erik! What are you doing here?” she said bravely.

“I was lonely,” he said. “Won’t you ask me in, too?”

“Certainly!” Minniford said. “Come in and have a sip of my blackberry juice.”

Her small mouse house, which was built of sticks and leaves, was a tight fit, but they all managed to find room around her kitchen table.

“Your place is so cozy, Minniford! Mine is much grander and more spacious but is never this homey!”
